Making carbon markets work: A COPx conversation on what’s next

Tuesday 31 March, 1:00 - 2:15 ET

Join us Tuesday 31 March for a conversation on whether carbon markets work, how to make them work better, and what you can do to use them wisely. COPx Steward Hunter Lovins will be in conversation with Dr Drea Burbank.

Drea works with Savimbo and small-holder farmers and indigenous groups in the Colombian Amazon. Under the stewardship of traditional leaders, Drea advises hundreds of communities how they can get paid for the ecosystem services that they are delivering to us all by responsibly managing the forests that are their home. Using certified carbon, biodiversity and water credits, Drea and Savimbo enable some of the poorest people on earth to monetize their ecological wisdom.

Hunter was one of the first advocates for carbon markets, working in Kyoto at COP3 to create a global trading regime in 1997. One of the first buyers of carbon credits on Chicago Climate Exchange, she subsequently served on the Board of Carbon Fund. Since then, she has advised carbon market efforts across the world,

Criticized by many as masking carbon pollution, carbon markets are growing rapidly. Hear why they are essential to solving the climate crisis. Bring your concerns, criticisms and idea. As in all COPx conversations, this is for you. Together we will craft the solutions for us all.
